Onami Glass

Unique and versatile Onami has been used in many SMOKE & MIRRORS projects. In 2010 Onami Glass has seen a dramatic increase in sales for use in custom countertops. More cost effective than Kiln Fired glasses and in the price rage of higher end granites, Onami brings to the table an unexpected factor, individuality. While most people are installing granite countertops what’s out there for people that want something a little different?
Onami Glass is made from float, or standard window, glass. It is then hand textured by our artisan Jim Duncan, using a special controlled glue chip process. We use Onami most often for our countertops for two reasons. First, it is the most cost-effective glass we can provide for countertops, but still very unique and artistic. It blends in to almost all environments, even if you change your design theme after a few years. Second, because of the nature of handmade texture it is best for kitchens, scratches disappear into the texture.
Onami 3/4-in. material comes in Clear (greenish glass) and Starphire (crystal blue). The term, Onami, is actually the trade name of a line of handmade textures by Duncan Glass. Duncan also makes Seafoam, Tsunami, Onami Mist and a few other texture patterns. All made with the same process but with slight texture variations. Onami can also be Sand blasted “Onami Mist” or back painted to any desired color making it completely opaque.
